Stephanie Grace Kershner and Joshua Ryan Quillen, both of New York City, were united in marriage on June 14 at Zion Lutheran Church in New Middletown. The bride is the daughter of Jeffrey and Susan Kershner of Columbiana. The bridegroom's parents are Gerald and Sue Quillen of Dover.
Pastor Larry Klinker of Zion Lutheran Church officiated at the couple's 3:30 p.m. ceremony, along with Pastor Ann Tiemeyer of New York City.
The bride was escorted by her father. Her mermaid-style gown of white chiffon over satin featured a chapel train. The cowl draped sweetheart neckline, empire bodice, and flared angel sleeves were adorned with crystal beading and sequins. A tiara secured her matching veil, embellished with beads and crystals, hand-sewn by her mother. She carried a bouquet of fuchsia gerber daisies, purple lisianthus, dark pink wax flowers, purple mini carnations, purple limonium, and lime green hypericum berries.
Christina Porter of North Ridgeville, served her sister as matron of honor. Steph Helkenn of Northfield, Minn., was the maid of honor. Both were attired in gowns of black chiffon and satin.
Zachary Quillen of Athens, the bridegroom's brother, performed the duties of best man. Groomsmen were Daniel Banks of Streetsboro, Jamie Deitz of New York City, and Jeff Neitzke of Akron. Junior usher was Christian Porter of North Ridgeville, the bride's nephew.
Jeremy Gilpatric of Akron, and Zachary Quillen were soloists during the ceremony and So Percussion members Eric Beach, Adam Sliwinski, and Jason Treuting, all of New York City, performed throughout the wedding. Steel drums were played by Murray Mast of Manchester, Conn., and Matt Dudack of Akron.
The couple accepted congratulations during a reception in their honor at Das Dutch Village Inn in Columbiana.
After a honeymoon to Maine, the couple resides in New York City.
The bride graduated from the University of Akron in 2004 with a bachelor's of music in voice performance. She is currently pursuing a master's of divinity at Union Theological Seminary in New York City. She is employed at Advent Lutheran Church in Manhattan, and will be chapel minister at Union Theological Seminary beginning in August 2008.
The bridegroom is a 2003 graduate of the University of Akron where he received a bachelor's of music in performance and education, summa cum laude. Mr. Quillen completed a master's degree in music performance at Yale University in 2006 and is a member of So Percussion. He is also the artistic director of the New York University Steel Drum Band.
