Auto ‘event’ set in Canfield

By KEVIN HOWELL
POSTED: July 12, 2008

CANFIELD- In a time of economic struggles and strapped budgets, Dave Ehret and Edwin Nelson are trying to provide an event that is cost-friendly and entertaining for the entire family.

Dave & Ed's Super Auto Events will be held July 18-20 at the Canfield Fairgrounds. The event is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday July 18 and 19 and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 20. Admission is $5 and children 11 and under get in free. Cost for a weekend pass is $7.

"This event has really become a family event," Ehret said. "In the economic times we're in, the first two areas that suffer are savings and entertainment dollars, every cent is spent just staying afloat. We've tried to address this by keeping our admittance fee low and giving the family an option; get people somewhere other than sitting around at home."

Sponsored in large part by Pepsi and Ron Haus Automotive, the event features vendors from around the country, a Car Corral with privately-sold vehicles and a Car Show from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. July 20.

"This isn't just for guys working on a car or in a garage," Ehret said. "It's like walking through the largest mall available. Families can come for entertainment, be it looking at all the vendors tables or interacting with the other people showing their vehicles."

With over 1,500 vendors and more than 500 vehicles, the event provides the public with a variety of merchandise, not just automotive equipment, Ehret said.

"Let's face it, we're in a squeezed economy right now and the dollars we have we must spend conservatively," he said. "The dealers here don't have the store front or marketing expenses, so they can afford to sell items for less."

Dave & Ed's offers three super auto events each year, in May, July and September.

Vendors can register until Sunday morning. Spaces cost $45. Registration for the car show is the day of the event.
