UL grads earn Ohio Oil & Gas Industry Scholarships
Marcus Dangelo and Abby Miller of Salem, both recent graduates from United High School in Hanoverton, have been awarded scholarships from the Ohio Oil & Gas Energy Education Foundation.
Dangelo plans on attending Marietta College in the fall to study petroleum engineering.
He will follow in the footsteps of a family tradition in the oilpatch and already has several years of working experience with William S. Miller, Inc., his family's natural gas and crude oil company.
Miller will major in petroleum and natural gas engineering at Pennsylvania State University (Penn State). She also has family ties to, and working experience with, William S. Miller, Inc.
The Foundation's Scholarship Program is targeted at students pursuing careers in the crude oil and natural gas industry. Dangelo and Miller may renew their scholarships for up to four years.
To qualify as a potential scholarship recipient, a student must: have a career goal in the crude oil and natural gas industry or related energy field; be an Ohio resident or a student attending, or planning to attend, an Ohio college, university or vocational school; and be enrolled full-time in a program at a college or university, or be a high school senior enrolling in a four-year college program, or be a student attending or enrolling in a vocational school.
"By establishing scholarship opportunities, we hope to encourage more students to pursue science careers in Ohio's crude oil and natural gas industry," said Rhonda Reda, Executive Director of the Foundation and the Ohio Oil and Gas Energy Education Program (OOGEEP). "These outstanding students will certainly hold the keys to tomorrow's energy solutions."
