This is the sad reality for the area, and has been an ongoing problem since the 1980's. Starting with steel manufacturing and progressing from there. Some people blame the unions, some blame the economy, some blame the employers. It really doesn't matter where you want to lay the blame, it needs to get corrected.

As with the textile mills of the south, so are the manufacturing jobs of the north. They are gone from the area never to return. The manufacturing has moved to the south or to foreign countries. The reasons vary, but at the end of the day those jobs are gone for good from Ohio.

Instead they have been replaced by service jobs, which do not pay anywhere close to manufacturing positions. And the population continues to decline, as skilled workers relocate to where the jobs are.
