If you only need the longer ladder for one building why wasn't the hospital part of this? They built it that high, so why should the residents have to cough up money through the utility slush fund to pay for their engineering liability themselves? Who wants to bet utility rates rise here and there to cover this over the years.

What world are you living in Swager ?

#1 It's for just one bldg. #2 It's cheaper to build up ,rather over many more acres which the hospital didn't have, # 3 It's up to the city to provide the protection.#4 The utility dept was setting on over $10 million.

The Fire Truck will be a big plus for places like Smith Center, that the old ladder couldn't reach the top floor due to the angle from the street. This is needed for building downtown and business like American Standard and Butech. It's for the protection of the citizens and their property not just the hospital. Be glad the Utility Department had the money to lend,

Those 1,000 foot ladder trucks in big cities must really be expensive...

I'm not sure they make such a thing.

How would stabilize once it's extended ?

Oh boy. Ladybug, Grant was using sarcasm to prove a point. There is no such thing as 1000 foot ladder trucks. hehe

Why Oakleaves? Are they not up to code?

Wouldn't it be cheaper just to send American Standard and Butech out to the Industrial park?

The hospital can go with them. Boy ole boy, think about the impact to public protection that would ease. Salem Hospital has outgrown their existence in that zone. Regardless whether they build up or down.

Watchdog, what difference would it make if those businesses were in the Industrial Park? That is still city property and covered by the city safety forces.
