I personally would love a dog park. However, you are right it is the people's money and we (council) are looking for small projects to benefit many residents and get the best bang for the buck. It doesn't go far. I, each council member still have a little more than six thousand dollars to spend on projects. A dog park or any of the wish list projects from the parks commission are still possible if we pool our dollars. Some people were negative on the dog park and would prefer I give my contingency dollars for maintaining existing structures like the basketball courts and tennis courts. The decision is still being made. Especially if I can get matching donations which would benefit these projects and get more of them done. What do all of you think should be done.

Cyndi says: "Just a correction. This was not tax dollars technically" Excuse me, but if we are a government of the people, by the people and for the people. Is not every dollar coming into city coffers the People's money?? It may not be income tax dollars but it is still public money. No one was questioning council's right to spend this non-income tax money how they liked. It was just being questioned if this was the best possible use of the money. I guess we could put a notice on the new sign to beware of drug dealers, pot holes, uneven broken sidewalks, and collapsing buildings. Or we could just spend the money to help correct some of these problems. Priorities, Priorities, Priorities.

Just a correction. This was not tax dollars technically. Is was contingency fund from oil/ gas leases and matching funds from donors. Second there will be a contest with the public voting on the design. So if you want to go small and inexpensive, vote for small and inexpensive. The funds voted on are a cap not the exact amt. this is you chance to make your vote count.

"Also at the meeting, Sustainable Opportunity Development Center Executive Director Larry Kosiba offered an update on Project SEED BASE, a web-based data system aimed at improving the city's business attraction environment."

Who in the hello do these people think they are kidding? 60% finished? OMG can this be any more obvious? My tax dollars invested into this waste? This is ridiculous.

You have got to be kidding me? They are going to blow that kind of money on something as STUPID as this? What a blatant waste of tax dollars. It is official this City Council HAS GOT TO GO.

Concerned, you are absolutely nailing this on the head...these personal agendas are getting way out of hand.

How many people even notice a city welcoming sign? Seems like a lot of money that could be put to better use. Just a nice Salem City Limits sign would be much more cost effective and do as much good. Unless of course your purpose is to pat clubs and organizations on the back and give them a that a boy.
