Obamacare to hit many in pocketbook

August 9, 2013

Within months, many Ohioans will be paying much more for health insurance they don’t want or need, because the federal government has told them they have no choice....

This entire law is a disaster...

ObamaCare’s cost-cutting board — memorably called a “death panel” by Sarah Palin — is facing growing opposition from Democrats who say it will harm people on Medicare.

Former Democratic National Committee Chairman Howard Dean drew attention to the board designed to limit Medicare cost growth when he called for its repeal in an op-ed late last month. (This law will truly harm senior citizens and their health and well being).

But the former Vermont governor is not the only Democrat looking to kill the panel.

A wave of Democrats over the past three months has signed on to bills repealing the board’s powers, including Sen. Mark Pryor (Ark.) and Reps. Ron Barber (Ariz.), Ann Kirkpatrick (Ariz.), Kyrsten Sinema (Ariz.) and Elizabeth Esty (Conn.).

Out of control...After intense and, sadly, bipartisan lobbying and scheming in Washington, the Obama administration happily announced that it is creating out of thin air a special rule to ease the pain of Obamacare -- for Washington only.

A specific provision of the Obamacare law says that all Members of Congress and their staffs have to procure their health care coverage on the Obamacare Exchange, just like tens of millions of Americans. The Obamacare statute states very clearly that all members of Congress and their staffs are to procure their health insurance through the Obamacare exchange. Just as clearly, it does not reconstitute government support of their present coverage under the separate Federal Employees Health Benefits Plan (FEHBP) as payment toward the exchange. Furthermore, no ordinary American at that income level buying on the exchange would receive any government subsidy, much less one worth approximately $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for a family, as und

Furthermore, no ordinary American at that income level buying on the exchange would receive any government subsidy, much less one worth approximately $5,000 for an individual or $10,000 for a family, as under the rule for Congress only. This bailout simply has been pulled out of thin air under intense and, sadly, tyrannous political pressure.

So Ohio's cost to each policy goes up but Washington gets money to pay for their insurance? Does that sound right?

I guess it'll still be there when they get back.

Maybe that's why their approval rating is under 12%

Oh of course Fox news makes a daily point of Obama's being 42 %

And who cares.

Just more of the same.

If everyone would spend as much time and effort finding solutions and compromise as we did finger pointing.

America might last another 200yrs.

Liberal states often preview health-care central planning before the same regulations go national, which ought to make an Oregon cost-control commission especially scary. On Thursday a state board could change Oregon’s Medicaid program to deny costly care to poor patients who need it most.

Like most such panels, including the Affordable Care Act’s Independent Payment Advisory Board, the Oregon Health Evidence Review Commission, or HERC, claims to be merely concerned with what supposedly works and what doesn’t. Their real targets are usually advanced, costly treatments. That’s why HERC, for example, proposed in May that Medicaid should not cover “treatment with intent to prolong survival” for cancer patients who likely may have fewer than two years left to live.

ladybug Aug-09-13 1:31PM: "Just more of what I hear everyday."

Because you only watch MSNBC and other liberal stations. What else would you expect to hear?

The liberal way to save money is to tax everyone who has any money or income and let we older people die as soon as possible.

If you are trying to anger me over the part time congress and President, you're mistaken. I believe we should have term limits and anyone who voted for the affordable care act should be run out of town. If they want to work part time...set an agenda and pay around a few months of work as the congress began at the time our country was founded. Cut the government in half to start with and make certain they have it NO BETTER than those who elected them!
