The reason the separate groups were formed many yrs. ago is because the "big" group, the Salem Athletic Boosters, only "boosted" the football program. The other groups decided, we will do our own program then. A few yrs. ago, all the money, even though these were not school sponsored groups was forced under the umbrella of the school treasurer's office, by an ordinance in the state revised code, because of issues like what happened at West Branch with a woman stealing money from one of the boosters groups there. The school board said, if they weren't handling the money, these groups couldn't operate on their property. And Now it's come to, no more separate groups, because the treasurer doesn't want to handle the money separately. Believe me, the soccer program, the basketball program, and all the rest, are not going to get the attention the football program will get. Nor the money. Couldn't leave well enough alone!!

This is, most likely, a big mistake. The end result will be less fundraising effort by fewer people, as most will realize the dilutive effects of this change. It is sort of like socialism; utlimately it will have a chilling effect on the incentive to raise funds. Too bad.
