The mayor raised the street foreman'a pay $2.45/hr after looking at what the others in the utilities dept were making. "The increase will take the street foreman's pay to $24.04 per hour and cost the city an additional $196 per pay, which equates to more than $5,000 per year." $24/hour? How much is everyone else making? Either I'm out of touch, totally in the wrong business, or else this is a really lot of money. Is the pay for utilities dept exceptionally high? (If not, tell me.)

A part-time patrolman would make $12.10 per hour,a full-time officer making $15.09 per hour gets an overtime rate of $22.63

the street foreman's pay is $24.04 per hour

12.10 per hour?I'd think a police officer would make more than that.Something is wrong with this picture.

@questioner wages are a matter of public knowledge for city employees. You can go to city hall and request all of them.

Here's a good question, why is there an asst. supervisor in the Utilities Dept? The thought was THE supervisor was soon to retire. In the meantime, since he hasn't for oh, 3 yrs. or so, the city has been paying an ASST. utilities supervisor more than the police or fire chief makes. Yeah, the asst. to the water and sewer dept. makes more than the safety forces chiefs. (So that means THE supervisor makes EVEN MORE!!!) You can ask at city hall, it's public knowledge, they have to tell you. YOU pay for this!!! So one would surmise, if they are bringing the street dept. foreman's wages up to comparable the utility dept, that guy is going to make more than the police & fire chief as well. PRIORITIES!!!! You get what you pay for. If there's no incentive to take the job, you'll get people with no incentive working the job!!!

I think I'm gonna stop reading the paper online--all this is depressing and frustrating to find out about--I liked being ignorant and naive better. But honestly now, I really do hope some people in charge read some of these comments and act accordingly. Or is that still naive?
