Welp, there you have it! It's official. Salem has a new motto...Home of the COMMITTEES!! Hey we can paint that on the water tower! Of course, after we get approval first and it makes it way through committee after committee after committee after committee, then maybe by 2017, it might get voted on or FORGOTTEN about all together!!!!

Watchdog, you got wrong! It is reports, reports, reports! Then that turns into meetings, meetings, meetings! That leads to nothing done, nothing done, nothing done! The end result is wasted time, wasted time, wasted time!

Well, all I know is that if I kicked a broad that was planning processes or anything else, I would be sitting in the hoosegow.

You are not going to get a whole lot accomplished in life if you don't have general long term plans in place. Those that don't have a goal in life just let things happen and usually accomplish very little. Having at least some goals is a good idea. However it is what is in those goals that there could be some disagreement. Basic city services need to be done and done right. The city needs to get out of things that are not really the purpose for their existence. The city's main functions are to take care of health and safety issues, maintaining public ways, taking care of city property and to create an environment that is conducive to economic growth ie be business friendly. I think if the city would make these issues their plan they would be doing a good thing and also doing what they should be doing.

So if they were taking volunteers for any of the committees, would anyone of you do it?

Questioner, I personally don't know why they need all these sub committees to get the job done. They just need to figure out what it is they need to be doing and then do it. A five year plan is fine but the city's responsibilities go way beyond 5 years. I think they need to work on getting the basics, which are permanent things that they need to do, not just for the next five years. Like I said earlier, make the city safe by providing sufficient safety services (police and fire), maintain the Streets and public ways and take care of city property and equipment. They need to provide a business friendly environment that encourages business growth and makes the city a good place for businesses to locate. The city doesn't need to micro manage everything, they just need to realize what their role is and what their limitations are and act accordingly.

So a few years from now, when there are new elected officials all of this for nothing. New officials will be implementing their own ideas and plans. I don't see the benefit of subcommittees. I think we elected these people to do the job at hand. To much talk and studies and not enough action.
