It is most certainly ludicrous that the entire State of Ohio has only 16 medication-assisted treatment centers that offer methadone maintenance treatment, which (according to the CDC, SAMHSA, AATOD and many others) is the most effective modality currently available for the treatment of opioid addiction (I'm not sure where the author got the information there were only 12; There are 16 according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services whose Center for Substance Abuse Treatment oversees and regulates such clinics.). And it is crazy that ANY patient who suffers from a chronic, potentially fatal (if untreated) disease and disability would have to be transported long distances via taxi to receive the most evidence-based treatment for their condition. However, that speaks more than anything else to the fact that MORE treatment centers/clinics are needed in the State of Ohio (and the vast majority of other states as well). Every county should have one; OH leadership has failed.
