Well, it appears that the housing development that was supposed to NOT be all low income housing will become the "Salem Projects". Council should not change the Commercial zoned property to include even MORE of the same. Leave it for commercial development or let it remain empty.

A few years ago, Walmart or another big store wanted to go into this area. Too bad that certain groups stalled that from happening.Would have been better to have put the proposed "project" where Walmart is and have kept the commercial area on the West side of the "hill".Finishing off Pershing St. was to be for business. Here we go again!Stay tuned!

If memnory serves me correctly was not this project billed in the begining as a development with "Young Executive" type housing? I guess those "young executive" type housing units are just not going to be occupied by young executives, but rather by welfare type people. Is this the kind of growth that Salem needs? I wondered at the time, where they were going to find that many young executives to fill up those units. I guess we know now how they are going to do that. I wonder what that area will look like in say 5 years? Will they be well kept units or will we need to have a police officer assigned sepcifically to that area? I am thinking the latter.
