Surprise, Surprise does this really shock you. It has been a long time coming. Who is going to protect you now Gary? What a way to break in the new Chief. Good Luck with this J.T.
True he finally got caught, but what about the other cops in Salem and Perry Township that drink way to much... One day their luck will run out and they will be in the same position as Gary Poage is now...
I want to know how you set a car on fire. discharge your sevice weapon while drunk and it is misdemeanor counts. That is very troubling to me than get aquited of it. happen to know some one that was there when it happened and then sue perry township and get hired on salem PD.
This is VERY simple. He should lose his job. Period. Everyone moves on, that's it.
There is some sentiment that he won't because the union is too strong. But think of it this way, how can he be insured to drive OUR cruiser?
People who drive company vehicles at their place of employment lose their jobs in this situation. They can't be insured to drive the company vehicle. WE THE PEOPLE own the cruiser that his job requires he drive, he shouldn't be allowed to drive it. No suspension, no pay, JUST FIRED. He of all people should know better and he should be held accountable.
Hypothetical: he gets back in a cruiser, pulls someone over, they blow a .09 and the person loses their job and livelihood because of it. How can anyone possibly justify that this guy should have the authority to do that anymore?
Oh no! Not good. Sad news. This is a bad mark for the Salem Pd. This definitely will define J.T.s leadership. Feel bad for the other officers, the professional ones.
"IAD. This isn't NYPD" coming from a huge UNION lover that claimed he was once a big powerful Union representative. Of course you wouldn't want them to do that, now would you Bug!
It just makes me shake my head when this stuff happens. Hopefully they say Bub Bye to him. There are too many people out there that have spotless records, have done an academy, hold a peace officer certificate and are just waiting patiently for a spot to become open on some department. This is an open door for someone else to get a chance. GP and all cops know that their bar on offenses are set very high and that even a parking ticket will get them bashed for what they then go give tickets for. So for a DUI he should expect to be shown the door. I would.
I agree watchdog, that was why I stated they need to place him on suspension a full and "complete" IAD investigation. Emphasis on the word "complete".
At this point in time, the City of Salem is under no obligation to protect him only the City and the public. This is not "work related". They need to cross their T's and dot their I's.
City Council needs to be paying close attention to this.
Ladybug if you can refrain from your disrespectful responses, I would be interested to understand your reasoning on that statement you made. That remark interested me.
Just for the record, I investigated plenty of IAD cases in a Police Department so I think I might have a bit of knowledge in this matter if you care to open that door and play nice.
Well patti i just made a simple commment.Nothing to show any disrespect.
I said IAD in my opinion stood for Internal Affairs periiod. Now drop it cause i don't really care what you did.Thats then, this is now. Watchdog is the one out of line Also what is there to investigate. The past is the past.
The only thing where dealing with here is DUI. Cut and dry

Place him on suspension. This warrants a full and "complete" IAD investigation.
