Salem welcomes new chief

Observation - they were the flag patches wrong on their right shoulder. I'm sure the military veteran knows this. The blue field is always face front, not to the back. Wrong flag etiquet.

If this observation is the best question or complaint coming from the public of for our local officers then they are having a good day.

With all due respect. It depends KsBug79. It's proper protocol and regulation for the military and optional for law enforcement or civilian forces.

Unless, the State of Ohio incorporated a paramilitary organization or armed agency charged with police functions into its armed forces and this police department wasn't notified of it with mandatory state regulations. It remains optional. In fact, most police agencies recognize the respect for the flag and the fact that we do have many veterans that are still active and non active that are now law enforcement officers. Out of respect for that measure alone, many agencies are leaving it up to officer discretion. Either way that it is chosen does not disrespect the flag.

Police officers might work for a municipality but they are still certified and regulated by the State.

With no disrespect to the****argument, I for one am happy to welcome our new chief to the position. Salem was blessed to have so many wonderful applicants and should work well with JT at the helm. also thx to Ex chief Floor for all his years on the force.

Flag etiquette? Ok, so how are our Salem boys disgracing the flag by the word etiquette to give Ksbug credit for his beef? Their not and it's properly and respectfully placed.

Therefore...Patty is correct. Police are not military they don't have to display the flag the same way the military does. Besides, I am not a know it all on this front but what she wrote makes sense. Unless there is some regulation that regulates it right down to including civilians or police. Police are public servants and the Gov does not mandate it. They are not marching into battle...good lord. Goodness can you people find something better to moan about?

Her response was a good idea come to think about it. Just like with Garber, let it be their option, he wants to turn his flag around...let him. Stop trying to turn this mole hill into a mountain.

UNITED STATES CODE TITLE 36 CHAPTER 10: governs display of the flag. It does not designate how and arm patch should be displayed civilian or military, though the separate branches may have their own rules. The military normally wears the flag on the right arm, a position of honor. The blue field is always front because the American Flag always moves forward and never retreats. Does it matter to any one else, I don't care, it matters to me!
