Quakers ice Tigers
SALEM — Salem Quakers head coach Will Klucinec believes in four fairly simple tenets for success in basketball. Take care of the ball, rebound, make free throws and communicate. On Tuesday night against Newton Falls his Quakers excelled at them all, dismantling the Tigers 61-41. “We always talk about the constants,” Klucinec explained following his team’s first victory after a two-game skid against Howland and LaBrae. “We had good ball handling (six turnovers) which is a tribute to our guards, we got the edge in rebounds (24-22), we hit free throws (11-of-15) and we communicated.” Those simple constants were in stark contrast to the Tigers who suffered their first loss of the season. Newton Falls was able to jump out to a 11-9 lead after just one quarter behind a seven- point performance from center Marcus Fowler. The 6-foot-11 center led the Tigers with 20 points on the night.
