Salem collects record income tax revenue

SALEM — In the face of growing worldwide and national economic distress, the city had a record year for income tax receipts, Treasurer Robert A. Tullis told city council Tuesday.

That news eclipsed Mayor Jerry Wolford’s state of the city report which pointed to an eroding carry-over balance.

“In reality, Salem is losing ground in the economic battle of income vs. expenses,” Wolford said. “I do not consider our current economic situation a virtue, I consider it a call for positive change.”
